Baseball
Barry Bonds has just hit a solo homer to left field in Petco Park on a 2-1 pitch from Clay Hensley in the top of the 2nd, tying Hank Aaron for the career lead in home runs.

ETA: And yes, let this serve as the "official" love/hate/express indifference/etc. post regarding Bonds. None of it's really new anyway.

ETA II: Given the hot-button nature of this event and who's involved with it, we remind everyone not to forget the rules of the community. If you disagree with someone's opinion, debate that. Name-calling and personal insults will not be tolerated.

There's a difference between people hating Aaron because of the color of his skin and people hating Bonds because of the steroids and other PEDs.

McGwire is out of the sport and reclusive, but his name is mud with the majority of baseball fans now.

So far, Sosa appears to have been able to get away with his own sorry display in front of the government.

I think the fact that Aaron, in reality, wants nothing to do with this should tell everyone something.

Aaron suffered unjustly because of racism and undeserved hatred, Bonds needs to suffer because he cheated and cares about nothing but his own greatness. We arent being ignorant, most of us are pissed because we cant do anything other than voice our opinions on something that shouldnt have been allowed to happen. Bonds cheated and deserves nothing more all the boos he gets as he routinely shits on baseball history.

you can't shit on history from the inside. he IS history. Whether or not he cares about Aaron, or the past or any of it doesn't matter, but it's not up to him to matter, he's part of it. It's not like he's trying to erase memory of Aaron, he's just playing the game. Steroids or not, 755 is an impressive number. You can play the what if game however you like, but there is no direct correlation between any of it anyway. That Bonds took steroids just honors Aaron more, because no one mentions Bonds without him.

We can just keep debating, like all good baseball fans do, the history and the statistics about our opinions of who was the best slugger of all-time.(I don't put Aaron or Bonds at #1 anyway) That's what honors baseball history the most, the discussions and debates.

I think you are a disgusting excuse for a human being.

There is federal grand jury testimony that clearly shows that Barry Bonds used illegal substances to enhance his performance. Whether or not it was illegal under the auspices of Major League Baseball (which it has been since 1993), it has been a federal crime to use, possess or illegally sell steroids.

It was not a federal crime to be black in 1960, 1970 or today.

To compare the two is despicable, since it is your denial of the obvious crimes perpetuated by Bonds and the attempts to put his plight on the same plane as the actual and undeserved racism suffered by Hank Aaron is more ignorant than any of the hatred merited by Barry Bonds.

I have been well out of the woodwork in this group on this for quite a while. But since I back my hatred up with Federal evidence, common sense and hate all steroid users equally (well, actually I hate Mr. McGwire to name one of a couple who used the stage of Congress to plead the fifth but at the same time offer his time and fame to a organization to limit the spread of steroids in our children. Talk about your great role models). I hope that Bonds' steroid-enlarged heart explodes as he rounds the bases for home run number 756, but that's more so people like Bud Selig and the folks at ESPN have some egg on its face.

You can do this without the personal insults.

I think we've found the one thing we all hate more than each other.

Look, I know, you know, everyone knows... if Junior Griffey had just hit 755, we'd be carrying him around on a chair, throwing a parade with fireworks and puppies.

Nothing to do with race whatsoever.

I didn't know Aaron cheated.
